• The State of the TRC Upgrade

I had set my day off today aside to work on the TRC 9 Upgrade Project.  After 3 hours, I think I need to hold off on this for a bit more.

My first step was to research what modules from Drupal 7 would migrate across to Drupal 8.  Most of them are going to work fine, but I came across several needed modules that aren’t there yet, or are only still in alpha release.  Unfortunately, several of these modules are pretty much required for TRC to operate properly as it is setup currently.

I also looked into the end of life plan for Drupal 7, and it looks like I have a year or two more before they stop supporting it.  Once Drupal 9 is released in 2020, they plan on ending support for 7.  I feel pretty safe in putting off the migration for another few months.

I’ll take another look in the spring and see where we stand.

  • Web Design Saturday

I spent today doing some updates on a bunch of websites.  I also found a new theme for the Maine Balsam Libraries website, and planned out a big overhaul.

I also accidentally loaded the Sethen.com Archives, and found all the pictures broken. Yet again.  The menu was also stuck in mobile mode… I fixed it all, one last time.  I swear that installation of WordPress is possessed.

  • Genealogy Stuffs

I spruced up my genealogy website a little bit today.  The theme was having issues, its all fixed now.  And I finally got the thing to send out emails again!

I also started on a new genealogy project.  Last time I was doing research, I found I could export my entire tree and upload it to FamilySearch.org.  I finally got around to seeing how that worked out tonight.  The file is uploaded, but before it can be integrated, I need to go through every entry to verify crap.  There’s about 1500 more to go through….  It is going to take QUITE some time.

  • Tech Rifle Repair

This week at work I worked on something I never would have imagined.  I got to disassemble and repair an AR-15 Rifle for the Law Enforcement Simulator!  It has a recoil kit installed to work with simulator system, but the thing was having issues.  It runs off a magazine with CO2 cartridges, but as soon as you insert the magazine it rapid fires till it seizes up and runs out of CO2.  Replaced all the gaskets, but didn’t get anywhere with it.

    Was still an interesting project!

  • Stupid computer

So Mike’s computer had a meltdown, so I used mine to repair his hard drive. In the process, my Windows decided to hose itself and refuse to boot.

I spent 2 bouts reloading Windows, yet again, for the third time in what feels like 2 months.

It’s all fresh again. I’m getting pretty good at setting it back up the way I want it haha.

  • Halloween is coming

I found out this week they encourage costumes on Halloween at work 🙂

I’ve become know as Dr. Evil at work, mostly due to my Dr. Evil sign on my door.

I’m honestly considering going as Dr. Evil! Just not sure if I can pull off a ball cap….

    What does everyone think?
